The idea for offline upsampling.
The idea begins with offline upsampling using very long sinc filters.
About us / The story of PGGB
PGGB began as an experiment during the COVID lockdowns. It has grown through research, listening and feedback from a community of curious music lovers.
The first version became public on , but the work began long before that. V8 was released exactly five years later.

Meet the author of PGGB
PGGB is created by an audiophile with 20+ years of experience in the audio industry and academic research.
With a background in both academia and industry, our research spans signal processing, audio perception, the optimization of nonlinear systems and machine learning. Music has been a pleasure for as long as we can remember.
PGGB combines that interest in audio mathematics with the pleasure of listening to music.
The PGGB story / 2020–2026
Each release added new ideas, algorithms and features. This is how PGGB got from the first experiments to V9.
The idea begins with offline upsampling using very long sinc filters.
A prototype upsampler is built, and music samples are shared with a small group of people with similar interests. They later become PGGB’s internal beta testing and feedback group.
V0.0.42 Internal beta
The first beta, version 0.0.42, is released to the group.
V1.0.42 Edition 42
PGGB begins with PCM upsampling, 64-bit precision and windowed-sinc filters, using the MATLAB Runtime.
V2.0.42 Equalizer Edition
PGGB adds linear-phase EQ, which prompts some lively discussion on the forums.
V3.0.42 Insane Edition
Processing expands to 128-bit “Insane”, 192-bit “Ridiculous” and 256-bit “Ludicrous” precision. Higher precision brings higher memory requirements.
V5.0.42 Infinity and Beyond Edition
Two major changes justify skipping Version 4: completely reworked upsampling algorithms and custom fast math libraries for multi-precision calculations. PGGB moves beyond windowed-sinc filters and becomes non-apodizing.
V6.0.42 DSD Edition
Support expands to DSD128 through DSD1024, with 5th-, 7th- and 9th-order modulators. Inter-rate conversion is added, with processing at 64-, 107-, 128- and 256-bit precision.
V7.0.42 Neo Edition
PGGB leaves the MATLAB Runtime behind and gains a completely reworked interface built with Qt. The processing algorithms remain the same, and a free Lite tier is added as a thank you to the community.
V8.0.42 Rob Reiner Edition
V8 brings native Apple Silicon support and new hardware-accelerated multi-precision math libraries. DSD64 and DSD2048 join the supported output rates, alongside two new classes of modulators reaching up to 25th order.
V9 In beta
The new Precision Optimized Upsampling Engine reduces high-frequency distortion to improve sound quality. It also uses less memory and processes faster. Live playback, Remote and personalized crossfeed add listening and control options. Release is tentatively planned for October.
Thank you for listening
Your feedback and encouragement have been the main driving force behind PGGB.
The experiment began as a way to pass the time during COVID, with no idea where it would lead. More than six years later, your questions, listening impressions and conversations still make working on PGGB a pleasure.
Thank you for your support as we continue developing PGGB.
